About Rubin

Ancient texts.

Personal questions.

I’m Rubin McClain, a New Testament scholar, author, and theologian. My work explores Scripture, identity, and belonging.

My Korean and Scottish-American heritage informs the questions I bring to ancient texts: how people understand their ancestry, navigate cultural boundaries, and find belonging.

Scholarship

Reading identity in ancient literature.

My research brings the New Testament into conversation with ancient Jewish and Greco-Roman literature. I give particular attention to ethnicity, ancestry, and identity in literary texts.

These questions connect my scholarly work with a wider concern for how communities understand peoplehood and belonging.

Beyond the study

Faith, writing, and public life.

My public writing engages political theology, Christian faith, and Israel-Palestine. It brings the questions of scholarship into conversation with the concerns of churches and communities today.

I also work with writers through editorial services, book proposal development, and publishing coaching—helping ideas take clearer shape on the page.
